Tension in Dei Dei Barracks After Fatal Stabbing Incident One Dead, Police Deploy to MD Abubakar Barracks Following Altercation*
There was palpable tension on Sunday at MD Abubakar Barracks, Dei Dei Abuja, after a young man was allegedly stabbed to death following a disagreement With waste-picker ( Scavenger) popularly known as “Babanbola” eyewitnesses said.
According to residents who spoke to SIXT-MEDIA LANE on condition of anonymity, the incident occurred in the afternoon when the deceased, identified as “Sunday,” a native of Jos, Plateau State, reportedly had a confrontation with a waste picker ( Scavenger/ Babanbola) in the area. It was alleged that the encounter escalated and the young man sustained stab wounds and died at the scene.
Sources said the victim was a final-year university student from Jos, Plateau State, and was reportedly the only child of a serving police officer residing in the barracks. Family members were said to be making arrangements for his graduation next month.
The FCT Police Command said operatives responded to the scene, evacuated the body, and took a suspect into custody for investigation.
However, some youths in the area were said to have attempted to prevent police from moving the suspect, leading to a standoff. Security personnel have since been deployed to restore calm.
As of press time, the Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Command, had not issued an official statement on the motive, identity of the suspect, or cause of death. Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and avoid reprisals while investigations are ongoing.
