In what could become a significant development in the unfolding political permutations ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election, renowned public affairs commentator and Convener of the CountryFirst Movement, Prof. Chris Mustapha Nwaokobia Jnr., has publicly declared his support for the presidential aspiration of Prince Adewole Adebayo, describing the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate’s manifesto as the most comprehensive, realistic and convincing among the submissions received from presidential contenders.

Nwaokobia made his position known on Thursday, October 29, 2026, during a world press conference in Abuja, where he announced the endorsement of Adebayo following an extensive assessment of presidential candidates’ manifestos, policy proposals and proposed implementation strategies.

The endorsement represents the culmination of a campaign initiated by Nwaokobia and the CountryFirst Movement more than two months ago, challenging all presidential candidates to move beyond political rhetoric and present Nigerians with comprehensive manifestos explaining how they intend to govern the country, tackle its enormous challenges and restore public confidence in leadership.

The initiative, which commenced on August 26, 2026, was driven by the conviction that Nigeria’s leadership recruitment process must be anchored on ideas, competence, measurable commitments and clearly defined development priorities rather than political sentiments, party affiliations and campaign theatrics.

According to Nwaokobia, the movement reached out to the 18 presidential candidates published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), requesting that they submit their manifestos for independent scrutiny and assessment.

Out of the 18 candidates, 11 responded to the challenge by submitting policy documents or programme outlines. However, following an examination of the submissions, the movement identified Prince Adewole Adebayo’s manifesto as the only comprehensive document that adequately articulated a governance vision, policy direction and implementation framework.

The remaining submissions, according to the assessment presented by the coalition, largely consisted of briefs, graphics and summaries that lacked sufficient implementation details and measurable timelines.

For Nwaokobia, the exercise was never about political friendship, personal interest or partisan convenience. Rather, it was about demanding accountability from those seeking the highest political office in the country.

WHY ADEWOLE ADEBAYO STOOD OUT

At the centre of the endorsement is Adebayo’s policy blueprint titled “Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity: Governance and Accelerated Development — Blueprint of a New Nigeria, 2027–2031.”

The document presents an ambitious four-year governance framework addressing some of Nigeria’s most pressing challenges, including insecurity, poverty, unemployment, economic difficulties, educational deficiencies, institutional weaknesses and the urgent need for accelerated national development.

What appears to have particularly impressed Nwaokobia and his coalition is the emphasis on translating political promises into practical governance commitments, with identifiable priorities, implementation strategies and measurable outcomes.

At a time when Nigerians are increasingly concerned about the rising cost of living, unemployment, insecurity, economic uncertainty and declining confidence in public institutions, the coalition believes that the country deserves a president who understands the urgency of the moment and has a clearly articulated plan for addressing these challenges.

For the CountryFirst Movement, Adebayo’s manifesto represents more than another campaign document. It is a proposed roadmap for national reconstruction, economic recovery and institutional renewal.

A NEW DIRECTION FOR NIGERIAN POLITICS

Perhaps one of the most important messages emerging from the Nwaokobia-led initiative is the urgent need to change the character of political campaigns in Nigeria.

For too long, electoral contests have been dominated by political slogans, personalities, party structures, endorsements and promises that are rarely subjected to serious scrutiny.

The CountryFirst Movement believes that this approach must give way to a more intellectually demanding political culture in which candidates are required to explain not just what they intend to do, but how they intend to do it, the resources required, the institutions responsible and the timelines for achieving their objectives.

This is particularly important for a country as complex as Nigeria, where the challenges confronting the nation require more than emotional speeches and political calculations.

By demanding manifestos from all presidential contestants, Nwaokobia has drawn attention to an important democratic principle: Nigerians deserve to know the plans of those seeking their mandate before deciding who should occupy the nation’s most important political office.

His decision to support Adebayo following the assessment also sends a message that political support should be earned through demonstrable preparedness, policy depth and a convincing vision for national development.

WHY THE ADEBAYO BLUEPRINT MATTERS

Adebayo’s proposed 2027–2031 governance agenda places poverty reduction and national security at the centre of its priorities while outlining broader strategies for economic development, social welfare, infrastructure and institutional reform.

The SDP presidential hopeful has consistently maintained that Nigeria requires a fundamental departure from the existing pattern of governance and a deliberate commitment to building a productive economy that creates opportunities for ordinary citizens.

His manifesto provides an opportunity for Nigerians to interrogate the details of his proposed policies and assess whether the promises can translate into tangible improvements in their everyday lives.

The important question, therefore, is no longer simply who has the strongest political machinery or the loudest campaign structure, but who has demonstrated the clearest understanding of Nigeria’s problems and the most convincing roadmap for addressing them.

That is the argument underpinning Nwaokobia’s endorsement.

A CHALLENGE TO OTHER PRESIDENTIAL CONTENDERS

Beyond announcing his preferred candidate, Nwaokobia and the allied organisations used the occasion to challenge political parties and presidential aspirants to embrace a new standard of political accountability.

They maintained that political parties should function as ideological platforms with clearly defined policy directions rather than merely serving as vehicles for electoral contests.

They also urged political parties to make comprehensive manifestos available to Nigerians before inaugurating their presidential campaign councils, insisting that campaigns should be built around clearly articulated programmes and realistic commitments.

The coalition’s position is that Nigerians should be encouraged to examine the competing policy alternatives and make informed electoral decisions based on substance rather than sentiment.

THE ROAD TO 2027: CAN A MANIFESTO RESET NIGERIA?

Nigeria stands at a critical crossroads. The country is blessed with enormous human and natural resources, yet millions of its citizens continue to grapple with poverty, unemployment, insecurity and inadequate social infrastructure.

The next presidential election therefore presents an opportunity for Nigerians to demand a different quality of leadership.

Whether Adebayo’s blueprint will ultimately deliver the transformation it promises remains a question that will be determined by the electorate and, if given the opportunity to govern, his administration’s ability to translate its proposals into measurable results.

However, the significance of Nwaokobia’s intervention should not be overlooked. It has redirected attention towards an issue that should ordinarily occupy the centre of every presidential campaign: what exactly does each candidate intend to do for Nigeria?

His endorsement of Adebayo suggests that, following the assessment conducted by the CountryFirst Movement and its partners, the SDP presidential hopeful has presented the policy document they consider most convincing.

For a country desperately searching for solutions, the demand for credible ideas and practical governance plans is certainly a conversation worth having.

Ultimately, Nigeria needs more than another election. It needs a national reset founded on competent leadership, accountability, economic opportunity, security, justice and inclusive development.

And as the 2027 presidential race gathers momentum, the message from Nwaokobia and the CountryFirst Movement is unmistakable: the future of Nigeria must be determined by the quality of ideas and the capacity to deliver, not merely by the power of political slogans.
