…warns against harassment of members of the public, directs strict professional conduct.
The Commissioner of Police, Fed
eral Capital Territory (FCT) Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD., fcai., on the 17th of April, 2026, convened an emergency meeting with all Area Commanders and Tactical Commanders at the FCT Police Command Headquarters, Garki II, Abuja.
The meeting, which commenced at about 2:30PM, focused on strengthening security operations, enhancing professionalism, and consolidating the gains recorded in crime reduction across the Federal Capital Territory.
In his opening remarks, the CP welcomed all officers present and commended them for their commitment to duty, noting that the crime rate within the FCT has remained relatively low in the period under review. He, however, cautioned officers to remain vigilant, proactive, and responsive in the discharge of their responsibilities within their respective Areas of Responsibility.
The CP reiterated the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu psc(+), NPM., on the need for strict adherence to professional conduct. He strongly warned against extortion, harassment of members of the public, and all forms of misconduct, emphasizing that such acts will not be tolerated. Area Commanders were further directed to cascade these instructions to their Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and their subordinates, with a clear warning that supervisory officers will be held vicariously liable for any misconduct by their subordinates.
In a decisive move to enforce discipline, the CP tasked the Commander, X-Squad, to intensify monitoring and enforcement operations against unprofessional conduct within the Command. He stressed that any officer found wanting will be promptly arrested and made to face appropriate disciplinary actions.
Furthermore, the CP announced that, in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, all Tactical Teams within the Command have been dissolved and merged into a single, unified unit known as the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU). The newly established unit will be solely responsible for responding to violent crimes across the FCT, ensuring a more coordinated and effective operational framework.
The CP also called on residents of the FCT to continue to cooperate with the Police and other security agencies in the collective effort to maintain peace and security. He urged members of the public to desist from inciting confrontations for the purpose of recording and circulating such content, noting that Police officers are dedicated to protecting lives and property.
He further encouraged residents to promptly report any suspicious activities to the Police or other relevant security agencies, as public cooperation remains a critical component in effective policing.
The FCT Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and will continue to implement proactive measures to sustain peace within the Territory.
