Tertiary Institutions In Kaduna Embark On Strike Over Poor Salaries – SIXT-MEDIA LANE

The Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya chapter of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union, COEASU has called for a three day warning strike beginning on Thursday, June 19, 2025.
The Union and two other affiliate bodies, SSUCOEN and NASU are embarking on the industrial action to press home their two points demand which include, the immediate implementation of the 15 years old CONPCASS/CONTEDISS salary structure for tertiary institution. This is contained in the Schemes and Conditions of Service of NCCE, the regulatory body for all Colleges of Education.
The kaduna state college of nursing and midwifery, and Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic are also drowning tools to press their demands.
Non-implementaion of the 15 year old revised salary structure makes them the least paid lecturers in the entire country, with some earning as little as N63,000 a month.
The Union is also asking for a review of the Executive Order on 65 years retirement age for academic to include the non-academinc staff as contained in the Schemes and Condition of Service of NCCE, the regulatory body of all Colleges of Education in Nigeria without any punitive additional requirement.
The Union in a statement to its Congress Men and Women recalled the 14 day ultimatum issued by the Joint Congress of Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya to the Kaduna State Government on June 2, 2025, where the demands were made.
“Following the expiration of the of the ultimatum on 18th June 2015 without any tangible offer, it became necessary for the Joint Union to embark on a three (3) day warning strike starting from Thursday, 19th June, 2025 to Monday, 23rd June 2025.”
The Union called on members to adhere strictly to the directive, while reaffirming its commitment to ensuring synergy with the State Government, as it remains open to constructive dialogue with the hope of a swift resolution.
