ABA POWER: Hon. Munachim Alozie Raises Fresh Concern Over Power Outages in Aba, Plans to Resubmit Petition to National Assembly*
Hon. Munachim Alozie, member representing Obingwa-Osisioma-Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency, has expressed deep concern over the persistent power outages being experienced across Aba and its environs, describing the situation as a serious threat to the social and economic wellbeing of residents and businesses in the commercial city.
Alozie, who had previously submitted a petition to the House of Representatives over the worsening electricity situation in Aba, said he was compelled to revisit the matter following the continued disruption of power supply and its far-reaching consequences on the people.
According to him, “Electricity is no longer a luxury, but an essential component of modern economic and social life.” He noted that the persistent outages are placing enormous pressure on households, businesses, artisans, manufacturers, traders and other productive sectors that depend heavily on electricity for their daily activities.
He expressed particular concern about the impact on Aba’s already vibrant industrial and commercial economy, stressing that businesses are being forced to spend more on alternative sources of power, particularly generators and fuel, thereby increasing their operating costs and reducing their ability to remain competitive.
Beyond the economic consequences, Alozie noted that prolonged power outages are also affecting the social life of residents. He observed that families are compelled to adjust their daily routines, students struggle to study under difficult conditions, healthcare and other essential services face operational challenges, while the general quality of life continues to suffer.
He further argued that a city with Aba’s enormous commercial and industrial potential should not be subjected to prolonged and unpredictable electricity interruptions, particularly at a time when there is a growing emphasis on industrialisation, enterprise development and job creation.
Alozie, therefore, disclosed his intention to resubmit the petition to the House of Representatives, with a renewed appeal for the relevant authorities and stakeholders in the power sector to urgently address the situation.
He said his renewed intervention was motivated by the need to ensure that the concerns of Aba residents are not allowed to disappear after being presented before the National Assembly.
The lawmaker maintained that the people of Aba deserve reliable, stable and predictable electricity supply to enable them to conduct their businesses, create employment, support their families and contribute meaningfully to the economic development of Abia State and Nigeria.
He stressed that his intervention is not merely about electricity supply, but about protecting the livelihood, productivity and future of the people.
Alozie said he would continue to use every legitimate legislative avenue available to him to draw attention to the plight of the people and seek practical solutions to the persistent power challenge.
For him, the message is clear: Aba cannot realize its full economic potential when its businesses, industries and households are continually held back by unreliable electricity.
