………… Allegations Are Not Evidence: Why VeryDarkMan Must Respect The Law.

In a democracy, freedom of speech is sacred. But freedom of speech is not freedom to defame. It is not a license to drag names in the mud without proof, and then run from accountability when the law asks you to stand by your words.
That is the conversation Nigeria must have today regarding social media activist VeryDarkMan and his recent public accusations against Assistant Inspector General of Police, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, the head of Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos.
The Allegation and The Invitation
VeryDarkMan took to social media to make grave allegations against AIG Jimoh, alleging misconduct that he claims occurred in Lagos while AIG Jimoh was serving as Commissioner of Police, Lagos State.
As the alleged incident occurred in Lagos and the officer in question is the AIG in charge of Zone 2 Lagos, the Nigeria Police Force rightly invited VeryDarkMan to Lagos to present his evidence and prove his claims through due process, but declined.
His reason? Distance. He is based in Abuja.
But let us be clear: how can distance be a barrier in a case you yourself said happened in Lagos?
If you have evidence, and if you believe in justice, you go where the law is. You don’t hide behind a phone screen.
“He Who Alleges Must Prove”
This is not just a legal principle. It is common sense.
He who alleges must prove.
The media is not a court. Twitter is not a courtroom. TikTok is not where criminal allegations are tried.
If we allow a culture where anyone can wake up, make any claim against any public officer, and refuse to substantiate it before constituted authority, then no one’s reputation is safe.
Today, it is AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh. Tomorrow it could be a teacher, a doctor, a market woman.
The Man Being Accused: A Record of Law and Service:
AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh is not new to public scrutiny. In fact, he has spent 25 years of his career submitting himself to the law.
From Force PRO to CP Lagos and now AIG Zone 2, his record is public. He has been honoured by the NUJ as Crime Fighter of the Year and named 2025 Security Officer of the Year. He has opened Zone 2’s doors for complaints and consistently insists on due process and accountability.
AIG Jimoh has not hidden. He has not threatened. He has simply asked that if there are allegations, they should be brought through the proper channels so that law can take its course.
That is the mark of an officer who stands by the side of the law.
Disobedience to Lawful Invitation is Disobedience to Nigeria.
By refusing to honor a lawful police invitation, VeryDarkMan is not fighting the system. He is undermining it.
If his evidence is real, Lagos is the proper jurisdiction. If his claims are true, the court of law is the proper place to test them. Running away from that process suggests one of two things: either the evidence does not exist, or the goal was never justice, it was clout.
Nigeria cannot afford social media trials. We have courts. We have the Police. We have the PSC. We have the CRU.
Use them.
Let Us Protect What Is Good
AIG Jimoh represents a kind of policing Nigeria desperately needs: *intelligence-led, people-centered, and accountable*. To allow his image to be damaged by unproven allegations is to tell every good officer that service will be repaid with slander.
We must condemn this culture.
We must demand that VeryDarkMan *either come to Lagos and prove his allegations, or retract them and apologize.
Conclusion: Proof, Not Noise
Freedom of expression must come with responsibility. Influence must come with integrity.
AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh has shown he is ready to face any process of law. The question now is: Is VeryDarkMan ready to do the same?
Until he does, the public should treat these allegations for what they are, claims without proof.
Nigeria is governed by law, not by likes, shares, and viral videos.
AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh deserves our support, not suspicion. Our commendation, not condemnation.
