COMMISSIONER OF POLICE FCT APPOINTS CSP NUHU USMAN AS COMMANDER, VIOLENT CRIME RESPONSE UNIT (VCRU); CHARGES UNIT ON PROFESSIONALISM AND INTEGRITY – SIXT-MEDIA LANE
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD., fcai., has appointed CSP Nuhu Usman as the Commander of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), FCT Police Command.
The establishment of the Unit and the subsequent appointment are in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police to streamline tactical operations by collapsing existing tactical units across state commands and formations into a unified response unit for violent crimes and related incidents.
Prior to this directive, the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) comprised twenty-eight (28) units, out of which twenty-three (23) have now been collapsed. Officers from these units have been redeployed to various Divisions across the Command, while a select number have been carefully screened and scheduled for retraining in compliance and upholding provisions of Human Rights, professionalism and international best practices of Policing. Upon completion of this training, they will be posted to the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), thereby enhancing operational efficiency and ensuring a more coordinated response to violent crimes within the FCT.
The newly appointed Commander, CSP Nuhu Usman was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on 9th July, 2012. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and has attended several professional courses both within and outside the country, including the Liaison Officers Programme in China. He is also a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations.
He has served in various capacities within the Force, including Unit Commander, 50 PMF Kubwa; Sector Commander, Special Task Force on Petroleum and Illegal Bunkering (North-East); Officer-in-Charge (OC) Narcotics, FCT Police Command; and until this appointment, Officer-in-Charge, Anti-One Chance Unit, FCT Command.
While conferring the appointment, the Commissioner of Police charged the Commander to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability in the discharge of his duties, and to ensure effective coordination and prompt response to violent crimes across the Federal Capital Territory.
