The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, CP Ahmed Sanusi, has condemned the actions of Joseph Pam, a content creator in Bwari Area Council of Abuja, for spreading false information about Boko Haram terrorists entering Abuja.
According to eyewitnesses, Pam was seen circulating a video claiming that Boko Haram terrorists had entered Abuja, sparking panic and fear among residents. However, when apprehended by the police, Pam admitted to fabricating the story, stating that he did so to gain more likes and comments on his social media handle.
CP Sanusi has strongly condemned Pam’s actions, describing them as “irresponsible and unacceptable”. The police commissioner emphasized that spreading false alarms and misinformation can cause undue panic and disrupt public order.
“The police will not tolerate any form of misinformation or false alarms that can cause harm to the public,” CP Sanusi said. “We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of all residents in Abuja.”
The swift response by the police to apprehend Pam and debunk the false claim has been praised by residents and stakeholders. Many have commended CP Sanusi for his effective leadership and commitment to curbing crime in Abuja.
“This is a testament to CP Sanusi’s dedication to protecting the FCT and ensuring that our city remains a safe haven for all,” said a resident. “We appreciate his efforts in ensuring that those who spread false information are brought to book.”
The police have warned that they will continue to monitor social media and take action against anyone found spreading false information or engaging in activities that can cause harm to the public.
