RE: Fake News Alleging Dr. Ikedi Ohakim’s Interest in Senate, Not Governorship
The attention of the Bring Back Ohakim (BBO) 2027 Support Group – National / Strategic Leadership Council has been drawn to a malicious and deliberately misleading news article being circulated on social media platforms and blogs, falsely claiming that our principal, His Excellency Dr. Ikedi Godson Ohakim, is eyeing the Imo North Senatorial seat in 2027 instead of the governorship of Imo State.
We wish to unequivocally debunk this fabrication and set the record straight:
Dr. Ikedi Ohakim is not nursing or pursuing any ambition for the Senate. Such rumours are the handiwork of political mischief-makers whose aim is to confuse the public and derail the growing call for experienced and genuine leadership in Imo State at the expiration of the tenure of our amiable and performing Governor, Distinguished Senator Hope Odidika Uzodimma, CON.
Let it be clearly stated that Dr. Ohakim has always been associated with the governorship seat of Imo State, having previously occupied that office between 2007 and 2011, before his administration was fraudulently truncated through a well-orchestrated civilian coup and a campaign of calumny by the same people now spreading this fake news about him. As someone who fully understands the burden, demands, and expectations that come with governing a complex state like Imo, he is not frivolous or desperate about power.
At this moment, Dr. Ohakim is focused on supporting the incumbent Governor, His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodimma, to finish strong. He firmly believes that Governor Uzodimma who has completed only one year and seven months of his second term deserves the space, stability, and support to carry out the difficult and strategic task of governance without being distracted or stampeded out of office through premature 2027 speculations.
Dr. Ohakim recognizes that governance is a sacred trust, and out of deep patriotic conviction, he continues to advocate for political maturity and continuity -values that are essential for the peace and progress of our dear state.
That said, we must also reaffirm that should Dr. Ikedi Ohakim eventually decide to heed the consistent calls from across Imo State to return as Governor in 2027, it will be in the interest of justice, equity, institutional memory, and developmental continuity, not personal ambition.
As the architect of the “New Face of Imo” agenda and one of the most experienced leaders in our state’s history, Dr. Ohakim remains the only bridge between the past, present, and future of governance in Imo. He is widely acknowledged as the most prepared to consolidate on gains made and to further deepen development across the state.
While we acknowledge the constitutional possibility of any Nigerian contesting both the Senate and Governorship in the same electoral cycle (given the off-season nature of Imo’s guber polls), such political permutations do not apply in the case of Dr. Ohakim.
We therefore urge the public to dismiss the so-called news report as baseless, mischievous, and politically motivated. The BBO 2027 movement remains resolute and undistracted in its mission to reawaken Imo’s leadership to its highest ideals.
We also renew our sincere call on Dr. Ikedi Ohakim to once again answer the call of duty, not for self, but to rescue our state and fulfill the remaining tenure of equity and stability owed to Imo North.
Signed:
Capt. Bishop C. Johnson (SW/AW), U.S. Army (Rtd.)
National Secretary, BBO 2027 Strategic Leadership Council
Director General, Bring Back Ohakim (BBO) 2027 Support Group
