Today in Akwanga, Nasarawa State during our journey from Jos, Mr. Peter Obi made a touching stop at the Lafiya Road Market—not just as a leader, but as someone deeply moved by a powerful act of bravery.

He came to recognize a young hero named Umar, whose quick thinking and selfless courage saved an entire community and surrounding businesses. When a fire broke out as a tanker offloaded fuel at a filling station, they were unable to put out the fire. While people scampered away for safety, Umar didn’t flee. Instead, he sprang into action. Risking his own life, he entered the burning tanker and drove it out and away from the filling station, preventing what could have been a major devastating explosion. Unfortunately, some shops close to how far he could take the tanker before jumping out, were burnt.

Thanks to Umar’s fearless decision, countless lives, businesses, and homes were protected. Akwanga remains safe because one man chose to act with courage when it mattered most. His Excellency, Peter Obi highlighted the grave importance of this act of bravery in this difficult times, where a huge amount of life, businesses, and properties could have been lost.

This is the Nigeria we believe in—where ordinary people become heroes, and where true leadership means pausing to say: we see your courage, we honour your sacrifice, and we are inspired by your example.
