ANAMBRA GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION AND POLITICS OF PROPAGNDA – SIXT-MEDIA LANE CONSULT
ANAMBRA GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION AND POLITICS OF PROPAGNDA
It has been rightly established that the easiest way to kill a dog is by giving it a bad name. Anambra State parades one of the most brilliant minds in the country who have excelled in different areas of endeavour. It is a state with one of the highest number of captains of industry, business owners, entrepreneurs, Academicians, and renowned political figures. But, politics of hate speech, propaganda, and mudslinging have reduced the state to be a laughing stock in the country.
Recall that during the campaign that led to the last governorship election in the state, some political jobbers and some staff of a commercial bank in Abuja led a protest in the nation’s capital against the APC governorship candidate for that election, Senator Andy Uba; that he was owing the bank some billions of naira, hence shouldn’t be voted for the governorship stool in the state. Ironically, after the election, nothing has been heard of this case again till date, suggesting that there was a political undertone that sponsored the move aimed at discrediting the candidacy of Senator Andy Uba.
Today, the same rehearsed political propaganda machine has been activated against the governorship candidate of the same APC, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu by some faceless political jobbers who are presently alleging that he is owing them the sum of N1billion. The move to disgrace and discredit the APC governorship candidate was done in the full gleam of the camera, and widely circulated by the supporters of Anambra State Governor, indicating who had planned this poorly rehearsed and orchestrated political propaganda against the APC governorship candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu.
Salient questions arise herein on the above scenario: when did being a debtor become a crime in Nigeria? Even if Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu is truly indebted to these political jobbers as they are claiming, was trying to disgrace him the best and only available option before them to recover their audio debt? Why did these debtors have to wait until this period of election to raise this issue of Prince Nicholas Ukachkwu’s said indebtedness to them? How many big businessmen in Nigeria can claim not to be indebted in one form or the other in their push to expand their business empire? Does the supposed indebtedness of Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu an impediment to ascertain his capacity and capability to be able to properly govern Anambra State? If the above questions are answered in the negative, then the political propaganda machine of the APGA-led government in Anambra State took the wrong and crude step in their political merchandizing.
I remain strong in my stand that the APGA-led government in Anambra State should promote issue-based politics. It should be able to sell its governorship candidate to the electorates through disseminating organized information on the achievements of the present administration in the state in the last few years under Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo. That is not too much to ask for because Peter Obi and Willie Obiano did the same which earned them massive votes from the electorates for second term in office, even when they were contesting against some political gladiators that had the capacity of defeating them in the contests, hence Prof. Charles Soludo can also do the same without necessarily engaging in dirty politics of propaganda, witch-hunting, blackmailing and mudslinging.
Enough of this dirty politics in Anambra State!
