The Endless Charade: Unmasking the Financiers of Terror in Nigeria.
By: Charles Edet Esq, PhD.
For decades, successive Nigerian governments have been aware of the financiers of terrorism, yet none have been brought to justice. This glaring lack of accountability raises a disturbing question: Are the financiers more powerful than the state?
A pattern of deception right
from the Obasanjo administration to the current Tinubu-led government, every administration has claimed to know the financiers of terror. However, no concrete actions have been taken to expose and prosecute these individuals. This pattern of deception has led to a loss of trust in the government’s ability to tackle terrorism, this concealment is the bane of insecurity in Nigeria.
These unknown Shadow Financiers of terrorism (USFT), have been sang by
former Army Chiefs to the present. They consistently alleged the existence of shadow financiers who fund terrorist activities, yet none is named. Nigerians are aware of allegations made by politicians against themselves. No concrete results of pinning down possible culprits by any of the intelligence agencies but orchestrated arrests of insignificant persons, with no capacity of sponsoring the magnitude of persistent terror activities across Northern Nigeria. Why then the speculations.
However, despite their claims, no names have been revealed, and no actions have been taken to bring these imaginary individuals to justice. This lack of transparency has led to widespread skepticism about the government’s Armed Forces commitment to ending terrorism,
as it remains speculative, cloudy, to allude that there are international interests working to destabilise Nigeria, which is yet to be proved. All these can only be attributed to unfounded rumours.
Recently, the Chief of Defence Staff claimed that the military is closing in on terrorism financiers. However, given the history of deception and lack of concrete actions, it’s natural to question the sincerity of this claim. Are we witnessing another episode of “Idea of Decieving The Masses” (IDTM)?, my coinage, a silent approach to massively destroy Nigeria through terrorism, ie weapon of mass destruction.
It is pertinently imperative now as
Nigerians demand transparency and accountability from the government and its Armed Forces, Sister Security Agencies, with total involvement of the legislature and justice arms of government. Concealing evil is accepting to be consumed by it. It’s time for the government to take concrete actions to expose and prosecute the financiers of terror as it applies to the terrorists. The oat of allegiance undertaken by those in various segments of power, and the armed forces is to protect the nationals of Nigeria, not to deceive them by allowing enemies of the nation to consume all with lethality.
Based on President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Nigerians believe it includes total security of the people. The President’s government must take immediate action to unmask the financiers of terror, if any, by bringing them to justice, for peace to reign in the country. Equally the National Assembly should legislate on this, if they are sincerely committed to stop insecurity, including their own personal safety and that of the masses because every one is endangered. A law, passed to expose the financiers will embolden the Armed Forces and all other Security Agencies to act with alacrity.
The endless charade of claiming to know the financiers without taking concrete actions must end. It’s time for transparency, accountability, and genuine efforts to end terrorism and ensure the security of our nation. The lives of Nigerians depend on it.
The President’s government and the Armed Forces are highly commended for the recent physical decimation and fit recorded by Military. The commendation of the international community shows Nigerias progress in tackling terrorism is watched internationally. The sacrifices of Mr President, his team and the military shall not be in vain. The heroes in the field are highly appreciated, may God continue to strengthen them and protect their lives.
