Stop the Lies: Ohakim Never Called Himself “Ikiri” – Focus on Facts, Not Foolery

The Bring Back Ohakim (BBO) 2027 Organization has observed, with utter disgust, a fresh wave of baseless, ill-informed, and intellectually lazy propaganda being peddled by habitual detractors who, rather than engage in issue-based discourse, have resorted to lies and character assassination.

Their latest desperate falsehood? That His Excellency, Dr. Ikedi Ohakim, allegedly referred to himself as “Ikiri”—the bush cat.

Let us state this without ambiguity:
*Dr. Ikedi Ohakim NEVER referred to himself as “Ikiri.”*

This infantile lie is not only a desperate attempt to diminish a towering legacy, it is also an insult to the intelligence of Ndi Imo and the broader Nigerian public.

Let’s call it what it is: He said! She said! A brainless charade. How petty can people get? How shallow must one be to reduce leadership to a metaphor? What has a nickname—real or imagined—got to do with competence, results, and governance? This is propaganda, pure and pathetic.

As if that weren’t enough, the same chorus of dishonest voices now claim Ohakim “chased away Abuja politicians.” What nonsense! Ohakim himself came from Abuja to contest—and was called an Abuja politician by the same people now claiming otherwise. Please, can they name one politician he drove away? Just one. Empty barrels.

This is the height of pull-him-down syndrome, a behavior fueled by envy and fear of relevance. Ohakim’s enemies cannot match his legacy, so they concoct childish narratives to distract the gullible.

We refuse to be distracted. Here are the facts:

When Dr. Ikedi Ohakim served as Governor of Imo State (2007–2011), he delivered transformational leadership that remains unmatched:

Employed over 10,000 graduates into the civil service, tackling unemployment head-on.

Established IROMA and ENTRACO, professionalizing environmental and waste management across the state.

Established ISOPADEC to deal with ecological, environmental and developmental challenges of Imo’s oil producing communities.

Launched the New Face of Imo Agenda, a blueprint that integrated urban renewal with rural development across 305 wards.

Initiated the Imo Freeway, designed to connect Owerri, Orlu, and Okigwe—laying a foundation for statewide mobility.

Recruited thousands of teachers and healthcare workers to strengthen education and primary healthcare systems.

Maintained peace and security, earning respect from the public and national security agencies.

Practiced fiscal discipline, without borrowing recklessly or accumulating debt for the state.

These are not metaphors. These are facts. Achievements. Tangibles.

So, to those who thrive on gossip, mudslinging, and manufactured controversy—we say:

Enough of the cowardly lies. Enough of the propaganda. Enough of the stupidity.

The 2027 debate is about leadership, performance, and vision. It is not about metaphors or fabricated pet names.

We call on Ndi Imo to reject the gutter politics of smear campaigns and stand for truth, competence, and continuity. The BBO 2027 Organization is committed to issue-based engagement and will not bow to political scavengers feeding off the past because they have no future to offer.

Signed:
Capt. Bishop C. Johnson (U.S. Army Rtd.)
Convener, Bring Back Ohakim (BBO) 2027 Organization
