Nigeria’s sprint sensation, Favour Chukwuka Ofili has smashed the world record in the women’s 150m. The 22-year-old “Star Girl” as she is fondly called competes in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay.
Ofili ran a fastest time in history (15.85 secs) on the long track of the Atlanta’s Piedmont Park, eclipsing the previous world record held by Bahamian Shaunae Miller-Uibo who ran 16.23secs in 2018. Miller went on to win Gold in the 400m at both the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympics events.
Tamari Davis placed second still below the previous world record, returning at 16.14 secs.
Before now, no female athlete has run below 16 secs.
The 150m is not contested at major meets like the Olympics and World Championships
