Disregard for Orders: Rogue Police Officers Extorts ₦260,000 From Nigerian On His Way To The Airport – Sixt-Media Lane
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has repeatedly warned Nigerian police officers to stop unnecessary arrests, phone checks, and detention of youths.

Despite these warnings, some rogue elements within the police force continue to disregard these directives, bringing disrepute to the institution.
The persistence of these unprofessional and criminal behaviors within the police force undermines the institution’s efforts to combat crime in Nigeria.
It’s essential for the police leadership to take concrete actions to address these issues, ensure accountability, and restore the public’s trust in the institution.
A Nigerian took to social media platform, X, to share details of how he was extorted of a sum of ₦260,000 on his way to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
It’s alarming to hear that some officers are not only searching people’s phones but also arresting individuals illegally and forcing them to make POS withdrawals.
The Force Public Relations Office, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, had also reiterated the IGP’s warning, stating that anyone found engaging in such acts would be dealt with.
@PoliceNG Your men are running an illegal operation at the road that leads to MM1 airport terminal. At 5:30am this morning I was heading to the airport for my flight which was by 7:30am I was detained and my phone was in their custody. They checked my messages and pictures and found nothing, then they proceeded to my notes and found a love letter which I wrote to my girlfriend many years ago. They then tagged me as a yahoo boy and refused to give me back my phone after a while they told me they could only release me on one condition, they got a nearby POS machine and asked me to withdraw 260k. This was almost 7:00am I could have missed my flight but my flight was later delayed for an hour. I hate y’all so much.
