PSC: FORMER IGP SOLOMON ARASE SHOULD RESUME DUTY AS CHAIRMAN POLICE SERVICE COMMISSION IMMEDIATELY

AM YET TO SEE A MEDICAL DOCTOR WHO IS BEING SADDLED WITH THE AFFAIRS AND POSITIONS OF LAWYERS SUCH AS BECOMING THE ATTORNEY GENERAL OF THE FEDERATION AND MINISTER OF JUSTICE ,TO OVERSEE THE MINISTRY OF JUSTICE AND VERSE VERSA!

Same applies to the Nigerian Police Force and every other professional institutions, bodies and agencies.

Am writing this piece as regards to what former President Olusegun Obasanjo said some days ago just to counter and I quote him “When you make a retired police officer the head of Police service commission , it is like asking a thief to catch a thief” he said!

But in actual sense such postulations are ill conceived and inconsequentials as regards to the appointment of Former IGP, Chief Barr Solomon Arase who is a well known academia and one of the best refined and reformed officers the Nigerian Police has ever produced. A humble , gentle and simplicity personified officer who quietly went into his legal practicing after his retirement as the Inspector General Of Police in continuations of rendering service to the father’s land.

In as much as we are all clamouring for reform in our Nigerian Police system and drastic shift from the status quo, former IGP Solomon Arase stands out by all standard to give the Nigerian Police a the desired facelift we all have been clamouring for , including the sweeping out of corruptions and institutionalising commitment, equity, fairness and merit in the police force and other sister agencies .

Part 1 (2) (a) of the PSC ACT says the commission shall have a chairman who shall be the Chief Executive .

Part 1 (2) (b) says one of its members shall be a retired senior Police Officer not below the rank of Police Commissioner .

He who wears the shoe know where it pinches him, as the new chairman of Police service commission, its going to provide an ample of opportunities for Barr Solomon Arase to reposition the police institutions, having been a former IGP, a lawyer and now a civilian. So I don’t see anything wrong in his worthy appointment .

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo was an Army General who later became the head of States; upon his retirement as an Army Officer he contested as a civilian in a Democratic setting that is only meant for core civllians and won as a civilian President, was his reign and regime being termed or conceived as a military rule ?? The answer is a Big NO! So if chief Obasanjo’s reign and regime could not be termed a military rule, then I don’t see the reason why the former IGP Solomon Arase’s appointment as chairman police service commissions could be termed in such a manner by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, owing to the fact that Solomon Arase is no longer a serving Police officer, but now retired as a civilian and an experienced senior Police officer whose intimidating profiles, experience, background and sterling personality by all standards is qualified to be saddled with the huge responsibilities of steering the ship and overseeing the mantle of leadership of the police service commission .

On this note, Barr Chief Solomon Arase, the former IGP is an indefatigable focused and humble police officer who is focused and should be allowed to concentrate in his new assignment to serve his father’s land once again devoid of any distractions .

People should learn how to address issues the way it should be, properly devoid of grudges and not when it suites us for personal aggrandizements, perceived enemies or opposition to ones selfish detriments while negating the huge impacts such persons are to make there for the benefits of the generality of Nigerians as a people. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo is one man I respect , love and cherish so much who has earned my respect as a father and mentor who meant so well for this great Nation Nigeria and I enjoin him to give his fatherly blessings and every neccesary support to Chief Barr Solomon Arase to succeed in this onerous assigned new task.
